I realized that a few big changes occurred since last time. I also have found myself mostly offline on my usual haunts. That is actually a good sign. I won't go into an explanation why though.
Our nest is a little emptier these days, my oldest has gone off to college and is becoming her own person. She adjusted so quick to campus life (the next day it seems) that we were kind of upset that she didn't miss us! We missed her. When she came home at breaks I found I was treating her more like the adult she is becoming, yes you could say I am proud of her. She went into dental hygiene and realized that she doesn't want to that and changed her major to nursing. She wants to work with kids so pediatrics is were she wants to find herself in. My wife, being a nurse, was really excited, while I was concerned about some of the scholarships she will lose. The nursing profession is in need of nurses, but there supply of openings to get into the college programs is a fraction of those who apply. Tough hurdle to get over.
Once my off to college, my youngest stripped the room of anything that was her sister's, painted the walls, removed the bunk and totally made it her room. My oldest didn't care and when she came home, her little sister was excited to have her sister back in her room. We took the other mattress and slid it under the bed to make it a trundle bed set up. My youngest went out for Cross Country this past fall and loved every minute of it, now it is already track season.

About two years after my son left for college, he stopped coming "home" on breaks and started "visiting." It wasn't really anything he announced, it was just different. I figured it out after he did. It was hard. Fortunately, the little guy is just eight, so my empty nest is a LONG way away!
Check it out, the word verification word is "maryk". Maybe it's a sign that I should quit my job and sell makeup!
Looking forward to more great trail stories. My blog is www.annporter.com/blog now.
