Rhondy, or rondy slang terms for rendezvous, in our case it is centered around the annual rendezvous of the fur trade era ending in 1840. Merchants would bring supplies out to the west for the trappers to trade their beaver pelts for. It was an annual event that trappers looked forward to, today it is an excuse to get together and shoot black powder muzzleloading firearms, camp in pre 1840 gear (if so inclined, at most events there is an area for "tin tipi's") and have a good time
In the early 1990's we made nearly everyone of Cascade brigade's events through to 2001, then they lost the site. While they were looking for a site, we got distracted in life. A new site was found in 2004 but we never made it back to the clubs rendezvous till this year. The old site was closer and nicer than the current site, and back then there were much more "primitive" camps than we saw in years past.
On day one we arrived at camp late in the afternoon, set up camp and relaxed. The moon was nearly full that evening and allowed one to see quite well after dark, we called it a day early and the next morning we went to sign up for the events. Both girls shot the JR trail, last time we were at an event, the girls were still using cross stick, now they can't as JR's but they are much bigger than they were and hefted the rifle just fine. I went along to load and since the girls shared a rifle, I was busy reloading. There were 19 targets, so that made 38 time I had to load the muzzle end of that rifle.
I didn't sign up to shoot because I wasn't sure if I would have time, and when I got to the sign up board, there was no one doing an afternoon shoot, but a fellow (hoot owl) and his son Micah we met the day before were there and realized they missed their group, so he offered to meet up with me in an hour and shoot the trail.
To be continued...
