The last story will have to wait a bit longer before finishing it up. Some of the photos are on the wife's computer and I need hers on to grab them over the network, that and I have been distracted. I started the day a bit tired, it got better later in the day also my wife has hay fever and they are cutting hay across the street. This year the fellows cutting it are running two sets of horse teams with a horse drawn sickle bars, it is a quiet operation, you just hear the bar chatter as it cuts, no tractor noise, but all that pollen that is kicked up can cause havoc.
I was counting sheep bodies in the field this morning, I do that often, and couldn't see one of the lambs. I went out to see if it was just sitting down and hidden in the grass, but it wasn't and when I looked up, there were buzzards over by the trees. I knew that lamb was dead, but I could only find a gut pile, one vertebra and a blood trail that went from the edge of the tree line, into the trees. I couldn't find anything else.
I notified the neighbors (it's their sheep) and herded rest of the animals up by the barn in a pen. My DD and I set up the hot wire in the yard again this evening and will herd them into the yard tomorrow until the neighbors decide what they want to do. We lost both lambs last year and all the years I raised sheep, I never had a predator problem. I noticed the other lamb had a limp, so it was a target too.
The neighbors lost a house cat to a bobcat recently and there are coyotes around to boot. I am just not sure what got this lamb. I am still a bit tired, so I am going to get off the computer, I just wanted to make round to some favorite web sights and blogs. Zzzzzzz
